"Because, Seeing is

ARTS & CULTURE
We should all respect and appreciate the
arts of all cultures if it is in LOVE and PEACE. Traditions are preserved
through creative art, literary arts, visual arts and especially the
performing arts of dance, drum and music. Below you will
read information that can be referenced to all art forms. However
we will specifically stress the African and the African-American Arts
that we do and specialize in.
HOLY BIBLE
PSALMS 150:4
Praise him with the timbrel (drum) and dance: praise him with
stringed instruments and organs.
Our Mission:
To educate and teach African Culture and History through music, art and
the performing arts, especially African Dance and Drum. In addition, we seek
to instill pride, dignity, discipline development and enhance the understanding of the African American
experience in relationship to our African Heritage.

WHY THE ARTS
and
WHY WE SHOULD HONOR and LIVE OUR CULTURE OF
AFRICAN ART and THE
AFRICAN PERFORMING ARTS?
Basic Answer: "Knowing the righteous of self,
is the essence of LOVING SELF, FAMILY and others"
(Robert Dickerson)
"Consciousness precedes UNITY" (Dr.
Molefi Kete Asante)
Questions should be asked:
(1) Who are you?
(2) What are your roots and heritage?
"A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is
like a tree without roots."
(Honorable Marcus Garvey)
"We must display and be the
beauty, righteousness and love of our culture."

ART: human ability to make
things; creativity of man as distinguished from the world of nature / skill;
craftsmanship / any specific skill or its application /
creative work or its principles; making or doing of things that display form,
beauty, and unusual perception:
art includes painting, sculpture, architecture, music, literature, drama, the
dance, etc.
CULTURE:
the ideas, customs, skills, arts, etc. of a given people in a given period.
Customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or
social group;
A WAY OF LIFE
ROOTS: YOUR SOURCE OR
ORIGIN
HERITAGE:
something handed down from one's ancestors or the past, as a characteristic,
a culture,
tradition, etc.. The rights, burdens, or status resulting from being born
in a certain time or place; birthright
The African
Diaspora: refers to the communities throughout the world that have resulted
by descent from the movement in historic times of peoples from Africa,
predominantly to the Americas and among other areas around the globe. The term
has been historically applied in particular to the descendants of the West and
Central Africans who were enslaved and shipped to the Americas in the Atlantic
slave trade between the 16th and 19th centuries, with their largest populations
in Brazil, the United States, Haiti, and others. Some scholars identify "four
circulatory phases" of migration out of Africa.[
Black on Black Crime, violence and hatred is the direct result of many African
Americans or Black families being destroyed or dysfunctional in some form or
another. We must stress to all religious, community and educational
institutions the value and importance of teaching our original culture, roots,
heritage, history and love for one another, especially to our young people.
Remember what the Honorable Marcus Garvey said, "A people without the knowledge
of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots." When a person loves and appreciate who they are, they will respect themselves
and others.
UNIVERSAL AFRICAN DANCE and DRUM ENSEMBLE (UADDE)-
represents what we believe, our final model of family that understands
and appreciate culture and values. UADDE serves as a proven example of the
success we had in developing and helping to educate young people about their
roots, heritage, culture, the African Diaspora and history. Also,
implement solutions and programs of education, discipline and moral
development. We also believe this is
a must and primary beginning in order to advance as a people in
economics, family and community growth.

●
Art, dance, music and the performing arts is usually the
best way to get a idea,
vision or a basic understanding of anyone's culture.
●
The arts have a built in discipline that
increases the ability to achieve academic
excellence. The arts give you an interest, and a better
understanding of global
and world studies. The
arts also enhance critical thinking skills. The performing
arts,
is
a discipline that
keeps you in rhythm with body,
mind and spirit.
●
To inspire and exemplify hope for all. To help
stop the violence, the killings
and
self hatred, for those who suffer identity, heritage and pride
problems.
● It displays, educate, teach
and encourage cultural pride, dignity and
appreciation.
●
Cultural awareness through creative,
literary, visual arts and especially
the performing arts has been proven to be the best way to help present
values,
respect, love and understanding of anyone's culture.
● It helps Africans
and other ethnic
cultural organizations respect and see worth in
others
as well as themselves. To help understand and appreciate the beauty of
African culture,
African people and where African-Americans or black people
originated.
● It helps everyone and especially
African-Americans or black people to learn and
understand the importance of honoring their place of origin,
Africa.
At the same
time it helps our African family appreciate that there are
African-Americans helping
to build
UNITY, through teaching and emphasizing the importance of
EDUCATION,
HISTORY,
AFRICAN DIASPORA,
and how the
PERFORMING ARTS is beneficial
to achieve this mission. This is why
Africans in America must love, appreciate
and
help African-Americans who
love and honor this mission. This will make
it
easier and safer for all of us to live in peace and happiness.
HOW CAN ART and PERFORMING ARTS
GROUPS BE
HELPED or SUPPORTED TO ASSIST IN
EDUCATING THE COMMUNITY CULTURALLY?
● (1) Take time out of your busy
schedules to observe performances, workshops and
seminars by African centered organizations to help
teach and spread the beauty of
African culture.
Encourage your children,
family and friends to observe
performances, workshops and seminars by African centered
organizations.
● (2) Teach your children, family
and friends the value, significance and love of
the African drums, dance, songs and instruments.
● (3) Encourage your children,
family and friends to support, join and get involved with
African centered organizations.
● (4) Learn as much as possible
and then
teach and encourage radio, television
and print media to help support and advertise
cultural arts.
● (5) Encourage radio,
television and print media to promote presentations of
African Dance & Drum organizations for their
listening or viewing audience.
● (6) Encourage PROMOTERS
of Cultural, R&B, Hip Hop, Gospel, Jazz, Blues,
Rock & Roll and Reggae events, to use their
Main Attraction,
Headliners
or Superstars to promote high energetic and entertaining
African Dance
& Drum troupes.
We must encourage our people to appreciate the
original culture of Africa where all music, rhythms and dance comes
from.
WHY?
Within the news media and our own personal experiences of family,
friends, community
and nation, we are witnessing BLACK
on BLACK CRIME at an alarming rate.
BLACK
on
BLACK CRIME, such as murder,
rape, theft,
child abuse, child
neglect,
intentionally sexually transmitting
diseases and more is basically BLACK
on BLACK
HATRED.
Hatred
or
self hatred within the African American
community is the results of a
people and/or race, whose culture has been
lost. The
results are having NO
love,
self-pride,
dignity, honor,
and respect of themselves.
NOT, advocating and
supporting the arts and history is very dangerous and
contributes to the major problems and the social ills that
effect Africans and
African-Americans (black people), within the United States
of America.
African Dance & Drum Troupes will directly and instantly get to the
heart and spirit of the individual. This will give
your audience the desire
to appreciate their culture and history. It will also help educate
them of
the past and present. Hopefully, this will teach them
to respect
themselves and others for the future. This will bring the
respect of order
and safety to your events.
Always add your African Dance & Drum troupes on
your advertised promotions
as additional HEADLINERS to encourage and
display to your audience the value
of culture (The original music) especially for
African Americans or Black people
who
suffer identity and pride problems. Some
promoters have used Universal
African Dance & Drum Ensemble this way and it has
been very successful in
educating and entertaining their audiences.
Many
promoters and Universal African
Dance & Drum Ensemble have received many accolades,
e-mails, letters and kind
words from their audiences concerning their enjoyment
and appreciation at these
events.
Use us to
inspire and exemplify hope for ALL, especially for African Americans
To help STOP THE VIOLENCE, STOP THE
KILLINGS and SELF-HATRED
WE MUST
ENCOURAGE AND CREATE
HEADLINERS OF THE
CULTURE
On July, 15, 2008, these alleged young men killed two Africans (husband and wife) from
Africa.
In an
unrelated incident a husband and wife also lost their lives while their
five children
were inside
the residence. These
killings are of the highest level of evil, hatred
and ignorance. These
young killers
are
culturally, historically,
religiously and spiritually deprived.
We
(Universal African Dance & Drum Ensemble)
believe that we have been blessed to
travel the
United States of America
to EDUCATE and TEACH at-risk or inner city youth the
values of love,
discipline,
culture, history, and the African Diaspora. We also believe that
we
should be used
at school
assemblies, colleges, community and
religious events TO
DO WHAT
WE WERE BLESSED
TO DO.

Educating, Saving and Transforming Lives to be productive and righteous"

Point 9
of the
10 Issues of the Millions More Movement
is very important, it states:
Artistic / Cultural Development -
We demand a greater accountability and
responsibility of our artists, entertainers, industry
personnel and executives,
for them to commit to the redevelopment and upliftment of
our people. We demand an
end to the exploitation of our talent by outside forces.
We will make strides in obtaining
greater control over the means of production and
distribution of our immense artistic
talent and creative genius.
We advocate for cultural
development, and for the
knowledge of our original culture
to be used as a model for future advancement.

value of African Dance & Drum organizations.
● (9) Support financially and
morally to help encourage organizations to continue
the great works of advocating African Art and
African Performing Arts.
● (10) Encourage others to give
and support.
