Performing Arts

Unity Community Center has served more than 12,000 children with hands-on visual, performing arts, Martial arts, leadership development and life skills. Unity Community Center provides children with a safe, supervised environment where they can freely and creatively express their creativity in a caravan of discipline, cultural, and music workshops and classes.

Unity Community Center strives to:

• Provide a safe, supervised alternative to the streets, where participants can freely express their creativity through performing arts, martial art and life skills;
• Give participants a chance to make a positive, successful contribution to their community through a public performance and/or workshops;
• Educate the community about the talent and potential the participants possess;
• Encourage teens to consider educational teachings and the arts as a career path and/or a constructive recreational outlet

The Unity Community Center provided a unique opportunity to economically disadvantage and young children at-risk who reside in Camden County our programs reinforce a positive self-esteem and self-determination among underserved children through performing arts and varies academic and life skill programs.

Children and youth are trained in Martial Arts, Dance, Drumming, Music, and Academic preparation, Leadership and Life.  Children and youth get the opportunity to perform all throughout the year at varies community festivals, school events, Etc They also get television/broadcast exposure.

Unity Community Center believes all children deserve to have the gift of Performing arts regardless of race, class, gender or socioeconomic background. We offer professionally taught classes in the following areas of study:

• Dance
• Drumming
• Drill teams
• Martial Arts
• Music Composition, Harmony/Theory, Artist Development, Stage Presence and Advanced Musicianship with music classes of Jazz, Classical, R&B, Brass, Pep Bands and more.

Vision

To provide an effective alternative to idleness, vandalism, school truancy, drug use and gang-related activities through Performing Art, educational, discipline, cultural and enrichment programming.

Our Goals:

The goal of our program is to train and assist children and youth; to pursue further education in dance, theatre and performing arts support vocations.  It is our goal to make a difference in their communication, expressive behavior, and socialization and life skills. Following these improvements an increase of academics is also expected to occur.  The students will be more disciplined in their approach to everyday life whether it is academically or personally.  If they do not enter a performing arts profession, they will at least have the skills of working collectively, problem solving and maintain physical fitness.
