Mr. Robert Dickerson,
Founder & CEO
1544 Mt. Ephraim Avenue
Camden, New Jersey 08104
Dear Mr. Dickerson:
I am happy to inform you that the United States Festival
Mondial des Arts Negres Committee
(USFESMANCO) has selected the Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble
to participate in FESMAN, to be held in Dakar, Senegal, December 1-14,
2009. (Please note: new date for festival will be re-scheduled for
December 2010)
FESMAN is the descendant of the First
Festival of Black Arts held in Dakar in l966 and the FESTAC
held in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1977. Nearly 80 nations will bring their best
artists and performers to this
event. A distinguished committee of 18 artists, scholars, and practitioners
who have spent the past
year organizing for FESMAN made the decision to choose you as a representative
of the United States
at the FESMAN.
The
United States is set to have an energetic group of artists to represent the
diverse disciplines of our
artistic community. More than sixty people have been selected along with you
for the FESMAN.
The organizers in Dakar, Senegal, can
provide lodging, food and ground transportation for 30 artists
the first week and 30 artists the second week. However, all artists will have
to pay their own
transportation to and from Dakar, Senegal. Artists are welcomed to remain in
Senegal for the entire
two weeks of the festival. However, the organizers are only able to cover the
lodging, food and ground transportation for either the first or the second
week. If you stay longer than one week it will be at
your own expense.
Please
let me know if you intend to accept the invitation. This will allow us to know
how many
alternate spaces we have for the U.S. delegation.
Sincerely,
Dr. Molefi Kete Asante,
Chair
United States Committee for FESMAN 2009 (USFESMANCO)
